A
message from the Grove Park Music Festival’s Artistic Director

It is often said that as one gets older, time moves more quickly! It certainly seems to have flown past since the last festival. As I write this, our meetings are taking place with ever-increasing frequency and the committee members are beavering away to hit numerous deadlines. Sometimes we all find it hard to believe that we are still “going strong”- and the fact that we are still going strong means that we are “getting it right” and that you, our supporters still wish to have this festival in lovely, leafy Grove Park. Our aim, as always is top quality music in convivial atmospheres and settings. I hope that there will be much for you to enjoy at the 2008 Festival. Yet again, our artists will include familiar faces coupled with sparkling new young talent. I feel certain that we are booking “stars in the making”!
There are always unsung (no pun intended!) heroes working behind the scenes. As always, the husbands of several committee members work tirelessly for us-and never seek praise or public thanks. Without them, the festival would struggle and I am so glad to be able to put my note of thanks into print. We have also been extremely lucky in securing the expertise of Philip Evans. He has done so much to help us and our gratitude to him is boundless.
Sir Peter Blake is always interested in knowing what’s taking place and we count
ourselves very lucky to have such an eminent President. Our Vice-Presidents too,
are always pleased to be “hands-on”! Jason has hosted Art Exhibitions to which
our Patrons have been invited, whilst Sally, Ian and Michael have been the
judges in the Singing Competition which takes place every two years. Chris seems
to help in so very many ways. He always makes himself available to search for
sources of music; to test pianos and to offer help and advice whenever I need
it. I find his back-up invaluable.
The committee and I hope that you enjoy this festival and all it has to offer and we look forward to greeting you all - both old friends and newcomers.
